1 hour 30 mins.   The Hunger Games      313-End
Details: When KAtniss and Peeta won, they had really upset the government. When Katniss and Peeta were interviewd, they needed to persude the commoners to take their side. Only Katniss was told this, since they already believed Peeta could play along.
               "Your only defense can be you were so madly in love you weren't responsible for your actions."
                When Haymitch told Katniss that the government was mad at them, Haymitch made this plan to make sure her and Peeta don't look like fools. They're only defense was this plan, and the plan worked out well in the end.

30 mins.    Catching Fire    1-30
Patterns: In the beginning of the book, the narrator constantly reminds the reader of the difference in Katniss's new life. When Katniss won the Hunger Games, she got a new home and prosperity, and the reader in always reminded of how it differs from her old life.
             For ezample, when Katniss goes to the store, the narrator reminds the reader that Katniss didn't have enough money to pay for food, and had to hunt instead. Now, she has plenty of money to spend hoowever she wants.
           This shows the pattern between the constant reminders, and rich vs poor comparisons.

Reading log 19

1 hour   Hunger Games   pg 207-264
Details: Katniss was able to find Peeta after they committee announced that two tributes from the same district can both win if they are the last standing. Katniss takes care of Peeta after a leg wound, and they try to put on the show for the viewers, to get some supporters and help.
             "Haymitch couldn't be sending me a clearer. One kiss equals one pot of broth."
     This quote shows that using "fake" love, the two were able to get support from the viewers.

1 hour   Hunger Games    pg 264- 312
Patters: Throughout the whole time Katniss has found Peeta, there have been repeated kissing scenes that are just acts to Katniss, but real to Peeta. This is because Peeta is actually in love with Katniss while she thinks of it as a game. For example, Katniss kisses and acts up and only thinks about survival. Peeta on the otherhand always enjoys and savor every moment that they kiss and takes it as real love. This shows that the kissing scenes between them is a pattern, since they have the same thoughts throughout the whole time.

1 hour   The Hunger GAmes by Suzanne Collins   1-56
Details: The story takes place in the future, where North America has separated into 12 districts, and every year they have the Hunger Games; where 2 kids from each district is chosen at random to fight to the death until one is left. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, is from District 12. When her younger sister, Prim, gets chosen, Katniss bravely steps in.
            "With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.
                'I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!'"
           This shows Katniss's bravery to step in as the elder sister, and shows her dedication to her family, since she stepped in to save her family from getting hurt.

1 hour   The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins   57-104
Patterns: Throughout the story so far, Peeta continuously becomes more brave to be with Katniss. He acts more comfortable with her and is able to talk more in conversations with her. He shows her various things.
              "Peeta and I walk together down the corrider to our rooms. When we get to the door, he leans against the frame, not blocking my entrance exactly but insisting I pay attention to him."
               This is one example of when Peeta tries to get Katniss's attention, and his posture in this scene shows he's comfortable with it.

LAnguage of Discipline:
Salvation:  (n) act of saving or protecting from harm, risk, loss, destruction, etc.
"Get the weapon. Since that's the very weapon thet might be my salvation."
This is saying that the arrows is possibly Katniss's only hope of possibly surviving the intense need to get out of the area.

1 hour   The Hunger games by Suzanne Collins   161-207
Ethics: Throughout the story, Katniss tends to think to herself sometimes about who she wants to win if she doesn't win. At first she wanted Peeta to win, but when he unites with other people to "kill" her, she changes to Rue. She couldn't stand the idea of Peeta, who betrayed her. She continues to have these internal battles within her all the time.
      "Besides, if I'm going to die today, it's Rue I want to win. Even if it means a little extra food for my family, the thought of Peeta being crowned victor is unbearable."
         These constant changes of mind happens often throuhout the story, and it constantly dawns on her.

reading log 16

1 hour       Night Hoops by Carl Deuker      pgs 105-162
Ethics: After th eloss against Juanita, Luke comes to Nick to cheer him up, and tries to give him advice. Luke thinks that Nick is being a ball hog, and should pass more, but nick immediatly explodes and is furious. They end up in an arguement, and don't talk to each other.
              "...it seems like your trying to do everything yourself when you're out there. You've got to remember you've got teammates who can score, too."
          When Nick overreacts over this comment, its because his ethcs were attacked; that only he can score. But even though its attacking his ethics, it doesn't mean he's right either.

1 hour     Night Hoops by Carl Deuker     pgs 163-205
Patterns: MAny times throughout the story Nick's dad has always paid attention to only Nick, and Scott has taken notice of it. All the time, Nick's dad would call him about basketball, while he would never even talk to Scott.
              "Was that dad?"
              " Yeah."
              "I knew he'd call once he saw your name in the paper."
               THis shows Scott's notice to Nick's basketball, and only the fact that he's playing basket ball thathe gets attention.

1 hour    Night Hoops by Carl Deuker     pgs 1-53
Details: The story is about a teenage boy named Nick, who plays basketball for the varsity team at his high school. Ever since his brother, Scott, quit basketball for music, Nick's dad has been paying attention to Nick's basketball ever since, and not on Scott at all.
           His [Scott] face went red. "It's you he wanted to talk to, Nick, not me. I don't think it's even occured to him that the band will be playing tonight.
            This quote shows the difference in care from their dad between Nick and Scott. Their dad seems to only cares about basketball, and nothing else.

1 hour   Night Hoops by Carl Deuker    pgs 54-104
Ethics: There is a hot- headed tough guy on Nick's team named Trent, who plays extremely aggresive, and whenever anyone gets in a dispute with him, it's natural to want to back away from the dispute with Trent in it.
            "His hand came right back at my face, his fingers squeezing my cheeks and almost gouging my eyes. 'No way, Abbott. No way.'"
               This shows how aggressive and mean Trent is, and naturally all the teammates stepped away from the dispute in order to avoid fights.

1 hour     The Diary of Anne Frank    pgs 205-254
Ethics: Anne thinks herself as someone who trys harder than others. However many think of her as conceited, and Anne has a counter arguement to go against this claim  that she doesn't understand very well.
             "Now the trying part about me is that I criticize and scold myself far more than anyone else does. then if Mummy adds her bit of advice the pile of sermons becomes so insurmountable that in my despair I become rude and start contradicting them..."
             This quote means that Anne trys harder than most, but others tend to take it the wrong way when she flips out in stress or despair.

1 hour   The Diary of anne Frank   pgs 255- 306 (end)
Details: In the end, Anne never wrote of her time at the camps, but according to the "Afterwards" section of the book, her super anexxe group was caught. They were sent to camps, where of all the members of the Frank family, Otto Frank was the only one who survived. Anne died a peaceful death according to a survivor.
            " 'Anne, who was already sick at the time, was not informed of her sister's death; but after a few days she sensed it, and soon afterwards she died, peacefully, feeling nothing bad was happening to her.' "
           This quote shows that Anne died a peaceful death. This also showed how strong Anne was to endure all the trauma, and how she seemed to die with no regrets.

1 hour    Diary of Anne Frank   pgs. 103- 160
Details: During the time Anne was in hiding, she meets a person named Boche. After a while however, she and her friends still don't know whether Boche is a boy of girl!
           "We're still not sure whether Boche is a boy or a girl, are we?"
           "Yes we are. Boche is tomcat."
       They made the connection to the tomcat since Boche seemed like she could be having kittens, because her stomach keeps swelling.

Language of Discipline:
Invasion: (v) the entrance or advent of anything harmful, or from disease.
   In the Diary of Anne Frank, the Nazis are invading many countries and capturing Jews. The Invasions of different places was hot topic in Anee's time, and it would normally be all over the newpapers and such.

Reading log week 12

1 hour   The Diary of Anne Frank   1-53
Details: During the time Anne goes into hiding, she encounters many conflicts involved with family. This includes her relationship with her mother and sister, while she likes her father the best. She believes she will always love her father the best, since he is so caring and simpathetic, unlike her mother, who commonly embarasses her and makes a fool out of her.
           Anne states, "I finlly told Daddy I love him more than I do Mother, to which he replied that it was just a passing phase, but I don't think so. I simply can't stand mother, to and I have to force myself no to snap at her all the time, and to stay calm, when I'd rather slap her across the face."
        This quote shows the vast difference in Anne's love for her father and her mother. She can't stand her mother, while she loves her father with all her heart.

Ehthics: To the Frank family, it is okay to be pushy, but also be retiring and modest. but to Mrs. van Daan says that being pushy is bad, and being modest and retiring is all you need.
             Mrs. Frank states to Mrs.van Daan,"Well, Mrs. van Daan, I agree that it's much better if a person isn't overmodest. My husbad, Margot, and Peter are exceptionally modest. Your husband, Anne and I, though not exactly the opposite, don't let ourselves be pushed around."
                This means that Mrs. Franks ethics on behavior varies to Mrs. van Daan's. They have different viewpoints of being "pushy". Mrs. Franks says being a little pushy is fine, while Mrs. van Daan refuses pushiness.

1 hour   Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare   pgs. 145- 202
Ethics: Their is much discrimination and cotroversy among Puritans against Quakers. Quakers to Puritans are underlings of Satan, and are shunned. In this story, Hannah is a Quaker who is said to be a witch, just because she is a Quaker.
           "Quakers cause trouble wherever they go. They speak out against our faith. Of course, we don’t torment them here in Connecticut. In Boston I’ve heard they even hanged some Quakers. This Hannah Tupper and her husband was branded and driven out of Massachusetts. They were thankful enough just to be let alone here in Wethersfield."
            This quote said by John shows that Quakers have a very low reputation in Connecticut. Quakers have probably said many things to make the Puritans hate them so much. They rumours the Puritans spread about the Quakers are foolish though.

Language of the Discipline: Quaker: (n) A member of the Religious Society of Friends, a Christian movement founded by George Fox c.1650 and devoted to peaceful principles.
             "The Quaker woman’s. Down by Blackbird Pond. She’s been a curse on this town for years with her witchcraft!"
                This quote shows that Quakers are oftenly hated by others. The quakers belief tend to lead to these results. The Quakers reject ritual; a needed practice by many colonial Puritans. Quakers are also often misunderstood as Santan's underlings. Quakers are often shunned as witches.

Details: When Equality is chosen for his job in society as a Street Sweeper, he accepts. But with his intelligence, he decides to conduct his own experiments from his passion for knowledge. HE also meets Liberty 5-300. He gives her a nickname, a forbidden law.
            Equality claims,"We have given you a name in our thoughts, Liberty 5-300.
            "What is our name?"
            "The Golden One."
              I think he gave her this name because of her golden hair and her own individuality. HE defies sthe laws however.

Changes over time: In the beginning, Equality only knew to express himself as "we". But now, he know the word "I".

                   IN the future, I think that equality can bring mankind individuality and ego.

1 hour    The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare    pgs. 1-48
Details: WHen Kit's grandfather dies, she decides to go live with her aunt's family in Connecticut. When Kit is meets her family, She is immediatly greeted by Racheal, her aunt. Kit had always known she was caring and nice.
           When Kit comes to the home, Racheal states, "Oh lord, what a blessing it is for you to come in. We are so happy to have you here!" This quote shows that Rachel  is a very kind person who will talk to anyone with care.

1 hour     The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare    pgs. 49- 103
Changes over Time: When Kit first started living with her new family, she was treated roughly by her fellow cousin, Judith, and being criticized a lot by her. But when Judith meets a man named John, she immedialtly becomes nicer to everyone and becomes less critical.
               Kit explains Judith's new attitude as, "if a new aura around Judith had appeared, when the sun shone even brighter and the flowers grew is melody." This shows that Judith has changed over time,, because of her new crush, John.
